We started the trip with a small group on Friday afternoon, with a bit of exploration around Morongo Basin Desert Run Road. We set up camp here with hopes to escape the high winds. However, the high winds ended up following us through the night, making some things a bit difficult at camp. On Saturday morning, we met the main group at the closest Valero and brought everyone in to begin our Saturday daytime run. The turnout was good, with approximately 20 vehicles along for the drive. What’s great about the Johnson Valley off roading area is that it can be as easy, or as difficult as anyone could wish for. The route we took included stops at Means Dry Lake, Front Door, Back Door, Small Dunes, and Giant Rock. From one stop to the next, we traversed terrain that any stock SUV or wagon with 4WD/AWD with moderate ground clearance could get through. During our stops, folks with more capable vehicles had the opportunity to explore nearby while pushing their vehicles through rocky, loose, and/or rutted terrain. Everyone was able to join in on the fun, in one way or another. This was our 2nd annual Offroad Buddies springtime trip to Johnson Valley.
